If you are traveling from Skukuza in Kruger National Park to Chokwe on your way to Banhine National Park, the most convenient route is through the Giriyondo Border Post. This border post connects the Kruger National Park in South Africa with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and provides a direct route towards Chokwe.

From Skukuza, you would head to the Mopani Rest Camp, from where you can take the road towards the Giriyondo Border Post. After crossing the border, you will travel through Limpopo National Park towards Chokwe, and then continue your journey to Banhine National Park.

 Giriyondo Access Point Information

The Giriyondo Access Point facilitates travel between Kruger National Park (South Africa) and Parque Nacional do Limpopo (Mozambique) as part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, which also includes Gonarezhou National Park (Zimbabwe). This cross-border conservation area promotes regional tourism and wildlife conservation.

  • Operational Times:
  • October to March: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • April to September: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Open only to 4x4 vehicles, not commercial traffic.
  • Entry Requirements:
  • Minimum one-night stay in Kruger or Limpopo National Park.
  • Valid passport (6 months post-return), vehicle registration documents, owner authorization if the vehicle is not yours, and Mozambican 3rd party insurance.
  • South African citizens do not need visas; other nationals might. Visas can be obtained at Mozambican embassies or consulates.
  • Compulsory items: Two red emergency triangles, blue and yellow triangles for towed vehicles.
