How to get to Pomene


Getting There

Reaching Pomene from Maputo can be an adventure in itself. While the most straightforward option is to rent a car and drive, this journey can take approximately 8-10 hours due to road conditions. Public transportation is available but can be less predictable. The first leg involves taking a bus from Maputo to Maxixe, a journey of roughly 6-7 hours. From Maxixe, travelers must then find local transport to take them directly to Pomene, which can add another 2-3 hours to the trip.

An alternative option is to fly from Maputo to Inhambane, a quicker journey by air. From Inhambane, visitors can then hire a private transfer or take local transport to cover the remaining distance to Pomene, which is about 170 kilometers.
